SociaLock

Terms of Service

Effective September 27, 2026

The short version. SociaLock is a way for friends to put their phones away together. Be decent to the people you invite, don't try to break the app, and remember it is a social tool, not a safety device. Subscriptions are billed and refunded by Apple. The full terms below are what actually apply.

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

SociaLock is operated by AppShark LLC, a Texas limited liability company ("AppShark", "we", "us"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the SociaLock iOS app, its iMessage extension, widgets and Live Activities, and the website at socialock.app (together, the "Service").

By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Who can use SociaLock

You must be at least 13 years old to use SociaLock. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use it only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. You may not use the Service if you are barred from doing so under the laws of the United States or where you live.

3. Your account

You can use SociaLock with an account created when you first open the app, and you can sign in with Apple to keep it across devices. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your device secure. Your username and display name must not impersonate anyone or be offensive.

You can delete your account at any time in the app, under Settings, then Delete account. Deleting it also cancels sessions you host for everyone invited. What deletion removes is described in our Privacy Policy.

4. How SociaLock works, and what it is not

SociaLock uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks, with your permission, to restrict apps on your device during a session you choose to join. Other people in the session can see whether you kept your phone locked. That visibility is the point of the product.

5. Sessions, invitations and what you share

When you host a session you can invite people with a link, a code or a card in Messages. Anyone who has an invite link or code can see the invitation (its title, time and the host's name) and, depending on the entry setting you choose, join. Share invitations only with people you intend to invite.

Content you add to the Service, such as session titles and photos taken with the in-session camera, remains yours. You give AppShark a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy and display that content only as needed to run the Service, for example to show a session's photos to the people in it. This licence ends when the content is deleted, except for copies kept in backups for a limited time or where the law requires us to keep them.

You are responsible for the content you add and must have the right to share it. Don't photograph people who don't want to be photographed.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may remove content or suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

7. SociaLock Plus and payments

Joining sessions as a guest and locking your own phone are free. Hosting group sessions requires a paid subscription, SociaLock Plus. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may differ by country.

We may change what Plus includes or its price. A price change never applies to a period you have already paid for, and Apple will tell you before a higher price applies to your subscription.

8. Our software and the Apple App Store

AppShark owns the Service, including the app, its design, the SociaLock name and logo. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions.

You and AppShark acknowledge that these Terms are between you and AppShark only, not Apple, and that:

Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of the app. Where it conflicts with these Terms, these Terms apply to the extent permitted.

9. Changes and ending

We are building SociaLock actively and may add, change or remove features. We may update these Terms; if a change is material we will tell you in the app or by other reasonable means before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the new Terms.

You can stop using SociaLock and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or if we stop offering the Service. Sections 5 (licence to your content, until deleted), 8, 10, 11 and 12 survive termination.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, APPSHARK DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT PROMISE THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR SECURE, THAT A SESSION WILL START, HOLD OR END AS SCHEDULED, OR THAT IT WILL CHANGE ANYONE'S HABITS.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, APPSHARK AND ITS MEMBERS, EMPLOYEES AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, OPPORTUNITY OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING A MISSED CALL, MESSAGE OR NOTIFICATION DURING A SESSION. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AND US $50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers or limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.

You agree to indemnify AppShark against claims by third parties arising from content you add or from your breach of these Terms.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Before bringing a claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve it informally. Any dispute that cannot be resolved that way will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you and AppShark consent to their jurisdiction. If you live in a country whose law gives you the right to bring claims in your local courts, this section does not take that right away.

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer these Terms; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
